Terms of Service
Welcome to HapHood. These terms are the agreement between you and HapHood ("we", "us") when you use our website, web app, and mobile apps (together, the "Service"). We've written them in plain English on purpose — but they're still a contract, so please read them. By creating an account or using the Service, you're agreeing to them. HapHood is operated from the United Kingdom; we'll add our registered company details here once our UK company registration completes.
1. What HapHood is
HapHood connects local shops that have quiet hours with people nearby who'd love a deal. Shops publish short, time-limited offers; customers discover them on a map, reserve one, walk over, and redeem it in person with a QR code.
One thing matters more than anything else in these terms: the shop is the seller. When you redeem a deal, you buy from the shop, at the shop, and pay the shop directly. HapHood never handles your money, never sells you goods, and is not a party to the purchase. We provide the platform that connects you.
2. Who can use HapHood
- You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.
- Deals involving alcohol or other age-restricted goods may only be redeemed if you're of legal age to buy them. Shops are required to check age in store exactly as they would for any other sale — a deal is never a way around an age check.
- If you use the Service on behalf of a business, you confirm you're authorised to bind that business, and "you" includes the business.
3. Your account
You need an account for most of the Service. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider; keep your credentials secure and let us know at support@haphood.com if you suspect someone else has used your account. You're responsible for activity on your account. One account per person — creating multiple accounts to game deals, loyalty rewards, ranks, or referral credits isn't allowed. You can delete your account at any time in the app (see our Privacy Policy for exactly what deletion does).
4. For customers
Deals
Deals are created, priced, and honoured by shops. A deal shows the shop's normal price and the discount; the discount comes off the shop's own price. Deals are time-limited and may have limited capacity — a deal can sell out or expire before you get there. Some deals ("special" deals with deeper discounts) may be limited to customers who've been active on HapHood; the app shows you when that applies.
Reservations
Reserving a deal holds it briefly — long enough to walk over. If you don't show up, the hold lapses and the slot goes back to the shop. Repeated no-shows can temporarily reduce how many holds you can place, to keep things fair for shops and other customers — the app shows you the exact rule.
Redeeming
To redeem, show your code in the app and the shop scans it. Redemption is in person, at the shop, during the deal window. If a scan fails for technical reasons, the shop has agreed to honour the deal anyway — if that doesn't happen, tell us.
Your purchase is with the shop
Everything you buy when redeeming a deal — its quality, safety, and your statutory consumer rights in respect of it — is between you and the shop, and your legal rights against the shop are unaffected by these terms. If a shop doesn't honour a valid deal, we want to know (support@haphood.com): we can't force a sale, but we do act on it, including removing shops from HapHood.
Loyalty, ranks, and credits
Loyalty cards and rewards are run by individual shops and can be time-limited; a reward has no cash value and can only be redeemed as described in the app. Your rank and points are a feature of the Service, not currency — they can unlock visibility of certain deals and can change as your activity changes. If we run a referral or promotional credit programme, the app will say who can earn credits, what they're worth, and any caps or eligibility windows; credits have no cash value.
Cost
HapHood is free for customers. Shops pay us; you never do.
5. For shops
Your listing
Keep your business details accurate — name, branches, addresses, and opening hours. You're responsible for the content you publish: deal titles, descriptions, photos, and prices. The "normal price" you show against a discount must be your genuine current price; misleading reference pricing isn't just against these terms, it's against consumer law.
What it costs
Listing is free. You pay £1.00 (plus VAT, where applicable) per confirmed scan — that is, each time your staff scan and confirm a customer's redemption. A redemption is billable once per customer per deal. Reservations that don't turn into a scan cost nothing. We invoice monthly in arrears through Stripe using the card on file; invoices itemise the confirmed scans they charge for. If you think an invoice is wrong, tell us within 30 days at support@haphood.com — we'll investigate and credit any genuine error. A valid payment card is required before your first deal can go live. Prices may change with notice as described in section 9. If you've signed a separate agreement with us (for example, a pilot agreement), that agreement takes precedence over these terms where they differ.
Running deals
Deals run for a fixed window (15 minutes to 2 hours), must end at least 30 minutes before you close, and follow the discount bands shown in the app (normal deals roughly 10–50% off; special deals 60%+ with limited visibility). The app also sets fair-use limits — such as how many broadcast notifications you can send — which are shown where they apply.
Honouring redemptions
A live deal is a promise to nearby customers. You agree to honour valid redemptions during the deal window — including when the scanner fails, in which case you honour the deal and we sort out the technical problem. You're the seller: the sale, the discount cost, VAT on your sales, age checks, and consumer-law obligations for what you sell all sit with you.
Customers stay anonymous
HapHood shows you reference numbers and walking-time estimates — never customer names or contact details (unless a customer chooses to introduce themselves, for example by applying to join your team). Don't attempt to identify, collect data about, or contact HapHood customers outside the app.
Your content and brand
You own the content you publish. You grant us a licence to host and display it in the Service and in the app's discovery surfaces while it's live. We only use your shop's name, logo, or photos in our own marketing if you've separately opted in, and you can withdraw that at any time. Note that HapHood is a shared marketplace: your deals appear alongside — and in the discovery feeds of — other shops, including competitors, and theirs alongside yours.
Team access
You can invite admins and staff, and scope staff to branches. You're responsible for your team's use of the Service. You can remove a team member's access yourself at any time, effective immediately — and if you ever need help, we'll do it the same day you ask.
Leaving
You can stop any time, effective the same day, with no notice period and no fee: your deals are removed, your card details are deleted at Stripe, and your images are taken down. Any confirmed scans up to that point are still billable.
6. Acceptable use
Whatever side of the counter you're on, don't:
- break the law, or publish content that's unlawful, misleading, or offensive;
- abuse the Service — fake redemptions, manufactured scans, self-dealing, scraping, probing, or interfering with how it runs;
- game loyalty, rank, referral, or deal mechanics with multiple accounts or coordinated behaviour;
- use HapHood data to build a competing dataset, or attempt to re-identify other users.
We may remove content, suspend deals, or suspend accounts that break these terms. For anything serious we act first and explain as soon as we reasonably can; for everything else we'll tell you what happened and how to appeal by contacting support@haphood.com. If you run a shop, we'll give you our reasons in writing when we suspend or restrict your listing, and — except where we must act for legal reasons or you repeatedly and seriously breach these terms — at least 30 days' notice before terminating your access.
7. The Service itself
HapHood is young and moving fast. We add, change, and occasionally remove features, and the mobile apps may update themselves to stay current. We work hard to keep the Service up during shop hours, but we don't promise uninterrupted availability, and planned maintenance windows or genuine emergencies may interrupt it. The platform, its design, code, and branding are ours; these terms don't transfer any of that to you. If you send us feedback or ideas, we can use them to improve HapHood without owing you anything — that's what feedback is for, and we're grateful for it.
8. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that can't legally be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
If you're a customer: we're responsible for foreseeable loss caused by our breach of these terms or our failure to use reasonable care and skill. We're not responsible for the goods and services shops sell you (the shop is), for a deal being sold out, expired, or withdrawn, or for losses that weren't foreseeable when you started using the Service. Nothing here affects your statutory rights.
If you're a shop: the Service is provided "as is" to the fullest extent the law allows. We're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, or lost data, and our total liability to you in any 12-month period is capped at the fees you paid us in that period (or £100 if you haven't paid any fees yet).
9. Changes to these terms
We'll update these terms only for good reasons: legal or regulatory compliance, security, new or changed features, or pricing. When we make a material change — anything that affects pricing, your rights, or how the Service fundamentally works — we'll give you at least 15 days' advance notice in the app or by email (30 days for pricing changes). Continuing to use the Service after a change takes effect means you accept it; if you don't, stop using the Service (shops can leave same-day, as above).
10. The legal bits
- These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
- If you're a consumer, you keep any mandatory protections of the law where you live, and you can bring a claim in your local courts.
- If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still stands.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we're not waiving it.
- These terms (together with any signed agreement between us, which takes precedence where they differ) are the whole agreement between you and HapHood about the Service. Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy explain how we handle information — they're not contract terms, but we hold ourselves to them.
